Dark City Molds started as a custom mold house back in 2019. Although we've since built out a library of stock geometries, we're always happy to collaborate with brands looking to create innovative custom concepts. Curious how custom mold development works?
Here's a summary of the process:
Discovery - We set up an initial call to learn more about your brand and concept. This is a good time to discuss geometry, volume, recipe compatibility, and other design elements. If you already have a solid idea of what you'd like, you can send over reference images + specs to discuss over the call.
Digital Renders - Our team submits a 3D render of your candy design along with technical drawings for initial approval.
Prototyping - We manufacture a 3 cavity prototype for you to test with your recipe. Don't have a recipe yet? Check out our Gold Standard Gummy SOPs for some of the highest quality formulas on the market.
Tooling - Once your prototype and 2D drawings are approved, we begin the process of machining your master mold. All of our masters are tooled using state-of-the-art rapid CNCs. This ensures superior lead times, accuracy, and surface finish on every mold that leaves our facility.
Production - We begin the pour! Our team of trained mold techs assess, plan, and pour your molds. This multi-stepped process includes multiple quality control checks, from uniformity measurements to post-cure protocols.
Glory- You receive your molds and marvel at the precision of your new creation. Maybe you do a little happy dance. Who knows?
